Absolutely everybody on the planet except Shinji and Asuka.
So everyone dies. Maya's and Shinji's horror and … EVA-02's skull was pierced fourfold (none of her eyes actually being injured), and Asuka's left eye started bleeding.
There’s one more possibility we have to consider, however, and that is that Ahsoka really did die. so with the fact that Asuka dies in DnR makes Shinji doubt whether the asuka lying on the beach is just another of his crazy hallucinations or really her. Why should this be? One possibility is that her plans require Shinji to be traumatized before causing Third Impact, but wouldn't she want him to make a rational decision? Asuka and Eva-02 were killed by the Mass Production Evas. Though Asuka did die in the real world, her soul has been harvested by Quantum Rei and she is now present in Instrumentality, just like what happened to Misato herself. Prediction: Asuka will make out with Shinji in Rebuild Final and die. Worse still, in EOE she seems to deliberately wait until Asuka is dead before breaking through the special bakelite so Shinji can board the entry plug. Asuka didn't die. Now let me explain lol. Who wouldn’t want to choke Asuka?

Now, Shinji has just been through hell. The differences in the plot seem superficial to Shinji’s character arc when compared to the original/show. let me explain: the kitchen scene in Eoe with Shinji choking Asuka, I pretty sure that shinji realizes that it was all inside his mind. The figure we see reentering the shadows of the Sith Temple could be Ahsoka’s Force ghost. More seriously, Asuka has been set up by circumstance as the most likely candidate to provide Shinji with companionship as an equal — in other words, to connect with, giving and taking affection.

In Rebuild the story for Shinij Ikari is so far nearly exactly the same as it was in the original show as far as I can tell.

And by dint of being the pilot of Unit01, he's in control of humanity's destiny. That happened in "End of Evangelion", though. He's killed the only person who unconditionally loved him, his friends are gone, Misato's dead, he did screwed up things to Asuka, Rei creeps him out, everything's gone wrong. EoE MisatoxShinji scene( Shinji criticizes/hates himself as result): “I can’t, I’m no good…I did something terrible to Asuka, I killed Kaworu, I’m a horrible person” One of the functions of a plot in a story is to be the vehicle by which we explore characters while interlocking important events.
